My sister-in-law is about 5 weeks pregnant and has a cyst--How can this harm the baby?

It probably won't hurt the baby at all. Lots of women get cysts both while pregnant and not pregnant. It will probably rupture on its own and cause no problems at all. If it doesn't rupture, it could cause discomfort for her, but again will probably not cause any harm for the baby. If she has just recently seen this cyst ( like during an ultrasound )women will have a cyst sometimes on the ovary that they ovulated from. It goes away on its own. Don't worry, I am sure everything will be fine!

My sister-in-law is about 5 weeks pregnant and has a cyst--How can this harm the baby?
Probably not. The medical people will probably watch on the ultrasound and if she has any pain.
Reply:It won't. My wife had a huge cyst when she first got pregnant. The doctor said it was no danger.
Reply:You gotta do better than that, chica.

Where is the cyst?

I was told by my dr that i have a 2cm/mm cyst in my left kidney, i have been having alot of back pain, nausea,

You could also be having an infection in your kidney going on or even a kidney stone. I would recommend getting back in touch with your doctor to see what else they think could be going on.

I have a massive growth on my overies could it be a cyst?

yes, or ovarian cancer.....get to a doctor ASAP.

I have a massive growth on my overies could it be a cyst?
yes... go to a doctor
Reply:how do you know that u have a massive growth on your ovaries? Obviously you had an ultrasound or an Xray, why didnt you ask the doctor or tech that did the ultrasound? U MUST DO THAT. DO NOT RELY ON YAHOO ANSWERS.
Reply:Wouldn't you rather it be a cyst than anything else? A cyst can be taken care off.
Reply:Yes, but only your gynocologist would be able to determine that- book an appointment!

What is the best type of wrist brace to wear for ganglion cyst stabalization?

I had a very stubborn ganglion that would not respond to aspiration, immobilization or surgery. After the 3rd surgery, it finally was gone for good and I haven't had any re-occurance for the last 20 years. They put some kind of special mesh covering over my wrist bones that made the cyst unable to grow back.

What is the best type of wrist brace to wear for ganglion cyst stabalization?
If you just had your cyst aspirated you can get a standard wrist brace that covers your forearm and goes down to your hand (similar to a bowling brace) you can pick them up at any drug store. This will immobilize your wrist for a few days while the wrist comes back into place naturally. If you still have the cyst and you are trying to immobilize it... if it is giving you that much trouble see your doctor and have them drain it. Well worth the visit. I just had mine drained again an this time the doc shot it full of cortiszone. Seems to have done the trick.

Good Luck!

Where can I buy Pine tar, and will it help my acne cyst???

you can get pine tar soap from www.drleonards.com but i dont know if it will help or not. just go to http://personal-care.drleonards.com/Pers... it should take you right to it.

Where can I buy Pine tar, and will it help my acne cyst???
Well there is a salve called Ichthamol that contains pine tar...it is the color of tar obviously. You can get this cream at any drug store...even Walmart has it. It has drawing out properties but you don't need a lot. I do know that people use it on boils to draw out all the puss within it. I have used it as well on pimples and it has been effective. Apply it to the area and put a bandaid on it. It's best to do it at night before you go to bed. The other thing I would suggest is to try drying it out with Fels Nafta soap. It comes in a bar and is yellow in color. When I was a teenager my dermatologists told me to try it. It will certainly dry out the acne. Hope this information is helpful to you.

I have a benign tumor in my breast..meaning it wont cause any harm like death or side effects besides pain the doctor said its up to me if i want to get surgery and get it out but since im not big chested, if they remove the tumors my breast will dimple so imma just leave it in. So i want to get on the birth control pill but i was told the estrogen in the bc pill irritates the tissue around the tumor. Will i hurt myself if i got on the pill?

What would happen if i got on birth control with a tumor/cyst in breast?
No one can and will take upon him or herself such a risk as advising you to take or not to take b/c. I suggest you read some of these sites:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en%26amp;rls=c...

and decide what risks you want to take upon yourself. Rembmer that you can use and IUD without hormones.

Does the surgery cause alot of pian and how long does it last after having a testicular cyst removed?

That will depend on how big the cyst was and if it had touched nerves etc. really the best person to answer this would be the surgeon who is doing the procedure. The cases i have know the prognoses was good and they fully recovered very quickly. Are they sure it is a cyst they are dealing with as they are fairly innocent and normally benign,

I hope you are feeling better soon and don't worry i am sure you are in good hands.

Is lipoma usually painful? Any other thoughts of a painful movable cyst/tumor?

It depends on where it is located and how deep the fatty cyst is. I had one removed that was on my abdomen, it was quite deep and bigger than the surgeon anticipated. But, it didn't really hurt too much. Each of us have our own level of pain tolerance. As a rule, any surgical incision that is located more to the center of the body ( the nerve endings towards the center of the body are overlapped or doubled up),and if it near a bony prominence ( shoulder blade, hip bone etc.), it can tend to more uncomfortable because there is less meat/tissue over bony areas. Sense the lipoma is already painful then once it is removed and healed, the pain that you are now having will go away.

What is the easiest way to get pregnant after undergoing ovarian cyst removal?

haha

get sex all over again

What is the easiest way to get pregnant after undergoing ovarian cyst removal?
Avoid becoming stressed about getting pregnant. I had my left ovary removed because the doctor suspected cancer when I was 21. I had one child but wanted another. For to years I couldn't get pregnant.

I finally resolved myself to being happy with one child, when she was four I signed up for nursing school/college and became pregnant soon after which delayed my educaiton for another three years.

Also I would say that after surgery, you need to just give your body time to heal.

Cyst can grow back, see a DR.
Reply:go see your dr..probably your best bet.
Reply:call your doctor....

i had a cyst removed in my foot and they told me that it's possible for those kinds of things to come back...

good luck
Reply:I'm sorry - in your hand or in your head? I would assume hand because you said you can move your fingers. But either way, if you're feeling pain, at the very least contact the doctor who performed the surgery. Describe the symptoms to him or her and let your doctor decide. As far as I'm concerned, any time there's pain involved, especially at a previous surgical site, there should be a doctor involved.
Reply:My mother and a friend both as "cyst-y" people. They have to have them removed, too. I find it odd that your surgeon didn't warn you they may come back, for example, I had a bone tumour and my doctor told me they sometimes come back. Both my mother and friends' doctors told them, too. You may want to call the nurse at the orthopedic surgeon's office or if you went to another kind of doctor before, you should consult with an orthopedict surgeon. That's their specialty.
Reply:Stop holding your breath, breath harder, put on soak it in hot water, not to hot wear a glove.

What is the best way to cure an "open" infected sebaceous cyst?

A sebaceous, or epidermal, cyst is a small, movable lump under the skin. It forms when surface skin cells move deeper into the skin and multiply. These cells form the wall of the cyst and secrete a soft, yellowish substance called keratin, which fills the cyst. If the wall of the cyst is ruptured, the keratin is discharged into the surrounding skin, which causes irritation and inflammation.

The cyst may remain small for years, or it may continue to get larger. These cysts are rare in children but common in adults. Sebaceous cysts are not cancerous.

Symptoms

A cyst is a movable, dome-shaped, smooth-surfaced mass that varies in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters (from less than a quarter of an inch to more than 2 inches. Sebaceous cysts appear mainly on the face, ears, chest and back, but they can occur on almost any skin surface.

Diagnosis

Your doctor can examine the swelling and tell you if you have a cyst.

Expected Duration

A cyst may disappear on its own or remain indefinitely.

Prevention

There is no way to prevent sebaceous cysts.

Treatment

A sebaceous cyst usually does not need to be treated unless it is infected or is causing a cosmetic problem. Infected cysts usually are treated by draining the fluid and removing the shell that make up the cyst wall. You also may be treated with antibiotics if the skin around the cyst is also infected. If a cyst is causing irritation or cosmetic difficulty, your physician can remove it by making a small incision in the skin and emptying the contents of the cyst and its wall.

When To Call A Professional

If you have a new swelling on your skin that lasts for more than two weeks, contact your doctor, especially if it is painful.

Prognosis

The outlook for sebaceous cysts is excellent. Many cysts have no symptoms and some will go away on their own. Cysts can return. Draining cysts or removing them surgically usually does not lead to any complications or side effects.

Home treatment for a sebaceous cyst

Home treatment for a lump on the scrotal skin, such as a sebaceous (epidermal) cyst, may relieve symptoms but may not make the cyst go away. A sebaceous cyst is a sac filled with a cheeselike, greasy material (sebum) caused by plugged ducts at the site of a hair follicle. Sebaceous cysts most often appear on the scalp, ears, face, back, or scrotum. Hormone stimulation or injury may cause them to enlarge or become infected.

Signs and symptoms include a bump or lump under the skin that is:

* Firm and easily moveable.

* Yellow, white, or flesh-colored. It can turn bright red if injured or infected.

* Painless (but can be painful if injured or infected).

* 1 in. (2.5 cm) or smaller to 4 in. (10.2 cm).

To treat a lump that may be caused by infection under the skin:

* Do not squeeze, scratch, drain, open (lance), or puncture the lump. Doing this can irritate or inflame the lump, push any existing infection deeper into the skin, or cause severe bleeding.

* Keep the area clean by washing the lump and surrounding skin well with an antibacterial soap.

* Apply warm, wet washcloths to the lump for 20 to 30 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day. If you prefer, you can also use a hot water bottle or heating pad over a damp towel. The heat and moisture can soothe the lump, increase blood circulation to the area, and speed healing. It can also bring a lump caused by infection to a head (but it may take 5 to 7 days). Be careful not to burn your skin. Do not use water that is warmer than bath water.

* If the lump begins to drain pus, apply a bandage to keep the draining material from spreading. Change the bandage daily. If a large amount of pus drains from the lump, or the lump becomes more red or painful, evaluation by a health professional may be needed.

What is the best way to cure an "open" infected sebaceous cyst?
Antibiotics. You need to see your doctor. They could also drain it, clean it out or remove the whole thing. Then you won't have to worry about it anymore. My brother-in-law had a sebaceous cyst removed. No problems.
Reply:Antibiotics. Then, if it is large, have it removed. Sometimes these things keep coming back.

What type of sugary do they use to remove a benign cyst?

its a minor surgery to remove a cyst. local anesthesia injected directly around the cyst. there'll be several injections around the site. the surgery takes less than an hour. you can probably go home around an hour or 2.

the only problem would be taking care of the incision. keep it clean. and change the dressing everyday while applying antiseptic. you can use over the counter dressing (something like stickers) to prevent it from getting wet when you take a bath.

don't worry. majority of it is benign.

What type of sugary do they use to remove a benign cyst?
that would be a cut and splice routine.
Reply:Was very tempted to say castor or demerera. Usually an incision to remove the cyst and surrounding tissue.. Depends on where it is and size. Sometimes can use keyhole micro surgery to minimise scarring but not always, You doctor or consultant will advise you .
Reply:Sugary? No, they use molasses.
Reply:A cystectomy.

Has anyone had plastic surgery on their face to remove a cyst or mole?

I need details about options for removing a benign mole from my cheek. My research so far shows that there is no method that doesn't involve some risk of scarring.

Has anyone had plastic surgery on their face to remove a cyst or mole?
My cousin had some facial cysts removed and they turned out to be a lot bigger than expected. She had to have a fat transplant from her leg to her face to fill the hole. Considering all the pulling around she had the result was great. I know where the scar is and I can hardly see it. If you didn't know it was there you wouldn't see it! Plastic surgeons can do an excellent job and scarring is minimised;
Reply:As for details not sure what your looking for , but i had a benign lump removed from under my right cheek close to my chin several yrs ago and for a few months there was some light scarring but shortly thereafter you could not tell and to this day it is not visible, had it done by a plastic surgeon who i would go back to if need be.. good luck but don't worry too much i think you'd be fine and happy about the results
Reply:Your research is right. There is no method to remove the mole that wont leave scarring. You can always try a plastic surgeon, they do that stuff all the time.

Can I take abortation pills (mifeprex) if I have an ovarian cyst or a black pearl?

is there a risk? or what should i be awared of?

Can I take abortation pills (mifeprex) if I have an ovarian cyst or a black pearl?
are you preg and wanna take abortion pills ? or you wanting to get rid of cysts ? i had cyst on my ovaried holy painful it was the worse in the world i would have rather gave birth than ever had to deal with that but i say no to either regardless im against abortion so sympathy from me there sorry .... and for cysts i say hell no go to dr ... right now
Reply:I don't know what a black pearl is, but an ovarion cyst those just go away on their own most of the time. Some women have alot of pain from them and some don't have any. I'v had one since I first got pregnant and I'm 11 weeks now and I don't feel anything out of it the doctor just told me it was there and it should go away by 12 weeks. So I don't see what taking the abortion pill would hurt.
Reply:you should be aware of the fact that the abortion pill can kill you. It is very dangerous and you have to get a perscription for it. I don't know if you can take it with these conditions, talk to a doctor. Put your baby up for adoption. Don't kill an innocent baby and put your self at risk.
Reply:abortion pills are dangerous even if you are in good health. Did you know that you have to go to your dr. or clinic, and they will give you a shot, then you have come back and take another pill- and during this whole time- you will be cramping, like you have never cramped before and you can start bleeding and then may need a transfusion- you hope and pray that you get back to the drs. in time to actually "deliver" the fetus- Baby really- some women go through that alone at home. Later when you may desire to have a child you may not be able to or may miscarry. It is not safe for you.
Reply:If you're saying you want to take the abortion pill to get rid of a cyst, it won't work. The cyst is in your ovary, not your uterus. The pill will make your uterus empty its contents, but anything in your ovary will still be there.

Why is it so hard to get pregnant, with having ovarian cyst. For others who get pregnant easily?

So how do you know ,when your ovulating with ireggular periods.

Why is it so hard to get pregnant, with having ovarian cyst. For others who get pregnant easily?
I have PCOS(poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome) and hte way my doc explained it to my hubby and family while I was still under the surgery meds , my ovaries have a hard shell around them consisting of small cysts and so that shell could not be punctured by either and egg or sperm , that is why I was not ovuating and could not become pregnant. He perscribed me clomid, along with the Metformin I was already taking. That caused my ovaries to swell large enough to force ovulaiton and also make them swell large enough to crack the shell allowing the egg to be released/sperm to enter and be fertilized. may not be the same in your case but somehting you may want to ask your doctor about. My first cycle of 50mgs of clomid was not enough to crack the shell , on 2nd cycle and he raised it to 100mg and ovuated just fine 2dpo now and hoping we suceeded!! Fingers Crossed!!

Good Luck to you!

Reply:Ovarian cysts release extra estrogen into your body. High estrogen levels can keep you from ovulating or cause egg quality to be poor. Usually, doctors will need to treat the cyst/s until they go away or at least stop producing extra estorgen before you will be able to get pregnant.

Is it normal for hair loss to occur after a scalp cyst has popped and scab falls off?

The answer to your question depends on if the hair loss is localized (surrounding the site of the wound) or, if it is generalized. If it has become generalized in an acute (fast) fashion, then its most likely something a bit more involved.

Reply:Yes, what they said.... go back to the Dr. I have had ovarian cysts since I was 15yrs old. I have had 2 removals, and 2 laporscopic surgerys. I get them almost every month with ovulation, some are noticable, some are not, and some are just down right painful. I have had large ones rupture already and as long as they don't bleed internally the fluid from the cyst is just absorb by the body. But, definately see the Dr. some times birth control pills can help control the cysts, ask the Dr. about preventative ideas.

apparently its something you have had since birth.
Reply:The cyst is an infection really, a boil that is deeper than just under the skin....You may experience pain as it grows....They may need to place a cathether to drain the fluid...but if he gave you anti-biotics and it isn't too swolen it may drain itself.

Nothing major.....If you have a regular partner have him checked for STDs, he may have a minor infection that cause the cyst.
Reply:I had a grilfriend that had a cyst on her ovaries. She had to take birthcontrol and was told she might have trouble having kids. Otherwise she had no problems. She had issues with both ovaries though.

Typically they remove these kinds of cysts. Your doctor should of told you about this or made another appointment. Don't worry about it till you know more. Your lucky they found this so soon. More information can be found on the net.

Can anyone tell me what is the cause of a barthylyns cyst.i have been suffering with this thing for too long.?

According to this, the cyst itself is not necessarily the problem, but infection of the cyst is. You may need a good course of antibiotics to clear it up. Good luck.

Have any of you ladies on here ever had a batholins cyst/abcess?

if you are male then you need not answer this question!!

just wondering coz i seem to be the only person i know who has had this problem, if so how was it treated and did your doctor tell you any possible causes as i have had 5 abcesses in the last 10 years.

Have any of you ladies on here ever had a batholins cyst/abcess?
Yes I had one last year and had to have it cut out (not a pleasent experience). My doctor didn't really know what could have caused it as I'm pretty healthy and don't have and STDs. Just one of those things I think.

It is just a gland that keeps your stuff moist down there and when it gets clogged, it stinks. Don't worry. Nothing to be too alarmed about. Good luck.
Reply:You need to go to the docs - get them to do a swab to test what is causing them then get a course of the right antibiotics.

You can help by wearing loose naturel fiber clothes and keeping clean etc xxx
Reply:Bartholin's glands in the female are the equivalent of the Cowper glands in a male...

Infections.. especially STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) like syphilis can affect these glands, causing cysts and abscesses called Bartholin's cyst/abscess.

I have seen a couple of cases.,. if you have recurrent abscesses, you probably have an STD - which should be treated - do an RPR/VDRL test for syphilis, and get treated. There are also other causes and minor infections leading to it.

To treat the abscess itself, it requires simple drainage and antibiotics. A Bartholin's cyst requires a procedure called 'marsupialization' - a cut is made and the pus etc is drained. Its a simple enough procedure, and may rquire only local anesthesia.

Can a car accident while you're pregnant cause an ovarian cyst?

No. Ovarian cysts are not associated with trauma or car accidents.

Can a car accident while you're pregnant cause an ovarian cyst?
I see no reason why it would cause a cyst.

Is there such a thing as a BENIGN testicular tumor or cyst?

Yes there are. According to this website:

http://tcrc.acor.org/tcprimer.html

"Benign tumors are not cancer. They do not spread to other parts of the body and are seldom a threat to life. Benign tumors can often be removed by surgery, and they are not likely to return. Some tumors of the testicle are benign, but most are not."

According to this website: http://www.drrajmd.com/conditions/testic...

"Epidermal cysts, hydroceles, and spermatoceles are benign lesions. They are important only if they bother the person because of size or pain.

Epidermal cysts,....can be removed with a simple operation on the scrotum. This procedure can be done on an outpatient basis in a same day surgery center."

"A total of 80-90% of all testicular masses are malignant germ cell tumors. Benign testicular lesions are recognized in approximately 10-20% of cases."(http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=aff...

Testicular cancer begins as a scrotal mass, which may be painful. Diagnosis is by ultrasonography and biopsy. Treatment is with orchiectomy and sometimes lymph node dissection, sometimes followed by radiation therapy and chemotherapy, depending on histology and stage.
Reply:Benign means not malignant(Cancer). However cysta are benign most f the times. Testicular solid tumours are malignant in the majority. So, you should consult a surgeon immediately. You can also visit our hospital website bodeligeneralhospital.com and send any queries if you have, for free.

Are they any home remedies for the removal of a sebaceous cyst of the breast?

No.

If the cyst is infected you can relieve the pain of an infected cyst by using a warm compress on it. Use a clean, warm, damp washrag. You should see a doctor for antibiotics as well.

Are they any home remedies for the removal of a sebaceous cyst of the breast?
Not that I can think of. Most of the time surgical intervention is needed. You can use warm packs to soothe it if it's painful, though.

What is the recovery time of surgery to remove a ganglian cyst in the elbow?

It varies with each person. You can pretty much go back to work the day after surgery. The stitches will come out in about one week. The suture line takes another 2-3 weeks before the scab is completely gone, full movement of the elbow without discomfort may take several weeks.

My friend was diagnosed with muliple noodles in thyroid and water cyst, doctor told her its fine?

thyroid function is normal, she is worried ,any one have an idea to relive her?

My friend was diagnosed with muliple noodles in thyroid and water cyst, doctor told her its fine?
Thyroid nodules are very common in women. 95% of the time they are harmless. 5% of the time they are thyroid cancer. A biopsy will tell you for sure. An endocrinologist is the best type of doctor to see.

Just found out i have a enlarged thyroid gland and a cyst on it. i need more help to understand it?

There's are many good websites on thyroid. I'll put a few of them below in the source section.

Are you having symptoms of hypothyroidism? They include; weight gain or the inability to lose weight, fatigue, depression, constipation, muscle %26amp; joint aches, headaches, sensitivity to light, dry skin, dry thining hair, brittle finger nails that often have ridges in them, ibs with constipation

Many times if one id hypothyroid and put on thyroid medication the nodules shrink from the added thyroid hormone. I suggest you learn as much as you can about the thyroid so that you get the best care.

Go to http://www.mayoclinic.com/
Reply:Could be cancer. They'll need to biopsy before they know for sure. If it is cancer, they'll have to remove the gland, one side at a time because the thyroid is so important to the body that they usually want to leave some of it if they can. The good news is that it's very slow growing most of the time so there's no immediate danger. Mine wasn't enlarged, but there were cysts on it that turned out to be cancerous. That was three years ago. It's a lot easier than most other cancers. I'd look at that website to get some more info.
Reply:simple cyst in the thyroid is most probably benign %26amp; it needs to be aspirated.

How can you tell the difference between a tumor and a cyst?

also, is it possible to have a cancerous tumor that doesn't hurt?

How can you tell the difference between a tumor and a cyst?
A tumor is a solid mass; a cyst is fluid-filled. And you can indeed have a cancerous tumor that does not hurt.
Reply:See a doctor who will perform a biopsy to check. Cancerous tumors rarely hurt.
Reply:Biopsy or ultrasound are the only ways to know, and a biopsy is more reliable than ultrasound.
Reply:When you touch a tumor,it's hard, like a stone under your fingers.A cyst is pliable,it moves under pressure, like a small balloon filled with water. Tumors on the surface do not normally hurt. PLEASE go and have it checked out now. Good Luck.
Reply:tumor is a mass of cells dividing uncontrolably due to a genetic variation caused by carcinogens, in born genetic defects, etc.. we can assume cyst to be a bag (a membrane enclosing malfomed cells or it may have only some body fluids or pus.. etc..) difference can be elicited by ultrasonography, fine needle aspiration, etc

tumor can hurt in two ways..1) a region supplied by nerves developing a tumor. 2)when a tumor excerts mechanical pressure on the adjacent tissues supplied by nerves..

when there are no no nerves involved in both the above cases, a tumor can be painless..

At which point is it best to pop a boil or cyst ?

especially if there is a fear it may become too raw or tender.

At which point is it best to pop a boil or cyst ?
My advice to you, never pop a boil, cyst or blister. This can only cause further complications or infections and even more pain. They may pop on their own, this is ok, just dont do it yourself no matter how annoying it may be. Most boils can be treated at home simply by washing the infected area with antibacterial soap, and applying a hot washer or compress which will help bring the boil to a head. Over-the-counter topical antibiotics are also effective in limiting the spread of bacterial infection. Do not squeeze as this can spread the infection. When they burst, wash the area gently until no more pus appears, then cover with a bandaid to avoid reinfection. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly, and disinfect towels by washing any properly that have touched the boil (you dont want them popping up all over your body).
Reply:never let it bust on it own
Reply:never.. go to a doctor
Reply:Don't pop it.

Apply a hot water bottle or hot compress a few times a day and keep the area clean (use hydrogen peroxide). It will clear up on its own.
Reply:Take a small anti-microbial soap chip...get wet (mushy) and apply to boil and place a bandage over it. The soap will pull the infection to surface as it dries and cause it to open...poof...your owie is on it way to being gone in less than half the time...my Gram taught me ths..and it WORKS....YAAAY!!!
Reply:wait until they are ripe and you should see a piece in the center of them. this is the core and can be removed with a tweezers. its an infected hair. I used to have them a lot and this is how the doctor treated them and he taught me how and when to do this. once the core is out treat like any other injury

What is the best way to get rid of a pilonidal cyst?

You can try sitz baths for a while, but most pilonidal cysts, sinuses or abscesses need to be incised, irrigated and drained. Surgeons used to attempt to close the incisions with stitches, but many re-opened because of residual infection. Most incisions are now left open to heal slowly. Sounds gross, but it works.

Many pilonidal abscesses spread along several sinus tracts, so it is best to bite the bullet and have the surgery sooner than later. Smaller cuts heal faster than longer and deeper ones.

What is the best way to get rid of a pilonidal cyst?
Medical Treatment

Antibiotics do not heal a pilonidal cyst. Doctors have any of a number of procedures available, including the following treatments.

The preferred technique for a first pilonidal cyst is incision and drainage of the cyst, removing the hair follicles, and packing the cavity with gauze.

Advantage - Simple procedure done under local anesthesia

Disadvantage - Frequent changing of gauze packing until the cyst heals, sometimes up to 3 weeks

Marsupialization - This procedure involves incision and draining, removal of pus and hair, and sewing of the edges of the fibrous tract to the wound edges to make a pouch.

Advantages - Outpatient surgery under local anesthesia, minimizes the size and depth of the wound without the need to pack gauze in the wound

Disadvantages - Requires about 6 weeks to heal, needs a physician trained in the technique

Another option is incision and drainage with immediate closing of the wound.

Advantages - Wound completely closed immediately following surgery without need for gauze

Disadvantages - High rate of recurrence (It is hard to remove the entire cyst, which might come back. Typically performed in an operating room, it requires a specially trained surgeon.)

Reply:you need to be evaluated by a medical doctor to see if drainage or removal is warranted. sometimes they drain on their own, but the cyst sac still remains and can refill at any time.good luck;)michele

How would I know whether or not I had an ovarian cyst? Been having lower abdo pain on right side.?

I have also felt weak tired and dizzy please help been to 3 different drs and they are all stumped. Going for scans in 4 wks

How would I know whether or not I had an ovarian cyst? Been having lower abdo pain on right side.?
Hi, You are doing the right thing going for a scan, they will detect one if that's whats wrong with you. I had pain on the left hand side of my abdomen low down. Mine was only found late, it was big when the doctor found it. By the time i was operated on it was the size of a grapefruit and had ruptured but i didn't know it was bleeding. It was full of bone and hair (don't know how that lot got there) i had a full hysterectomy because i was older, and had children, but my friend had hers removed because she is only 30 and wanted children she had her op last Feb and gave birth to a beautiful baby boy in March of this year....Hope you are sorted soon, dont worry if it is a cyst you will be fine. Good Luck, keep us posted.
Reply:Ask for an ultrasound, that is how ovarian cysts are detected. Good luck
Reply:Only a scan could confirm or disprove the diagnosis, this is of course why one has been ordered!
Reply:My mom went into the hospital because she had an asthma attack, and they did a cat scan to see if her lungs were clear, and they saw huge cyst. They they did surgery to remove it, thinking it was ovarian cancer, but it turned out to be just a tumor, no cancer. She had it for like four years, and her belly got really big, and felt really really hard, it looked like she was nine months pregnant, and she couldn't go to the bathroom cause the tumor was cutting some tube thing off. She also had a lot of pain in her belly, and could feel something hard inside.

So basically what I'm saying is if you can feel something inside, you have pains, you can't go to the bathroom, or your belly gets really big, and hard, there's a good chance you do. But I highly recommend that you do get tests done, and find out for sure. All the doctors thought she had cancer. We were so lucky she didn't. The reason it got so bad was because she wouldn't go to the doctor. She thought it was just constipation, but it wasn't, and it could have very easily turned into cancer. I don't know why you are feeling dizzy, and weak though. So go to the doctor.

I'm not trying to scare you with the story, I'm just trying to help!!!

I hope you don't have cancer, or a cyst. Good Luck!!!!!!

I just had my 2nd laproscopy now I have a hemorrhagic cyst?

It is very painfull and want to know if any of you have had one and can it be serious?

I just had my 2nd laproscopy now I have a hemorrhagic cyst?
I have them too RIGHT NOW! I know your pain! It's horrible! I compared them to contractions. As far as how serious they are, I too, am not sure yet...but hope to get answers soon. I had CA-125 cancer screening blood work done and my score is 13, which is good. I hope your cyst shrinks and just goes away. I have 6 of them. 4cm or larger.

How can you tell if its ovarian cancer or just a cyst?

I am having lots of pain on the right side of my abdomen along with pain that sometimes radiates into my lower back.

How can you tell if its ovarian cancer or just a cyst?
You need to see a doctor straight away. Sometimes appendicitis can feel like ovarian pain.

It could be almost anything, so you need to go have an ultrasound to check your ovaries.
Reply:Your Doctor would have to check you
Reply:It could be a number of things (other than your ovaries). You need to see a doctor.
Reply:The only way to find out for sure what it is and have it diagnosed properly, is by going to the doctors or gyn. They are the experts in situations like this. But having such pain in your abdomen is nothing to play around with. You should go to the doctors ASAP so you can find out whats going on. Once you know, you will then have a piece of mind and can finally put your mind at ease. However, women tend to get cyst in varies of places in their body.....so you dont wanna take that chance.

But please, go to the doctors/gyn. You want them to see whether its a cyst or ovarian cancer before it's too late.

Good Luck :-)
Reply:You can't. My girlfriend had the same problem for over a year. Her symptoms included:

***Extreme pain on her right side that radiated to the back

***Serious headaches and migraines that made her vomit

***Irregular bleeding. She would stay 6-8 weeks on a period with a week or two off then right back to the 6-8 week thing again.

***Mood swings. She was so frantic once she was going to get into her car and take a plane to a village in Tibet with a monk as her guide

***Her bowels were jacked up. She never had a solid crap. Always runny, or accompanied by stomach pain and cramping.

Haye, this is my best girlfriend, we talk about shyt like that girl!

When it was all said and done with (she had a partial hysterectomy approxinamtely 3 weeks ago) her right ovary was malfunctioning, causing the cysts to build up and were wrapped so tight around her fallopian tube that her bowls had started leaking into it and was poisoning her body. Later, the cysts were determined to be hemoglobin or cysts that carried blood.

Ask for an ultrasound will. Ask your doctor what other things may be causing the cysts.

Talk to your doctor, find out the facts and be vigilant about it. When cysts rupture completely they can cause cancer. The best thing right now is to identify and treat what is causing the pain on the right side of your body which may or may not be a cysts. Get an ultrasound.

Is it ok to go tanning when you have an ovarian cyst or cervical cancer?

OMG, please contact your DOCTOR b4 tanning.. dont rely on this info from YahooAnswers. you can even call a hospital and ask any nurse, they'll be able to tell you!

Is it ok to go tanning when you have an ovarian cyst or cervical cancer?
well...for your sake, I hope the sun can't get to it....
Reply:Are you going for skin cancer too? I'd avoid it.
Reply:Talk to your doctor. I would not go tanning if I had any type of cancer.
Reply:yes it's fine as long as you don't have skin cancer
Reply:No. Tanning (if using UV rays) are inherintly bad for ur skin. If you need to tan, use a spray tan. Many tanning saloon now have spray tans which are safe. High dooze of UV rays can speed up ur cancer especially if its skin related. Even if its not skin related (like ovarian), tanning is bad for it. Dont' fry ur ovaries.. stay away from UV tanning.
Reply:If you want to add skin cancer to your prognosis, go for it. Otherwise, use a tantowel, they are the least-streaky fake tan option out there (in my humble former-beauty-store-employee opinion)
Reply:yes...unless you are having chemo or radiation for the cervical cancer..then it is not ok....and besides..if you already have a cancer, why would you want to risk getting another cancer just so you can look tan? health is more important...forget tanning
Reply:Tanning in itself (UV Rays) is a carcinogen. I don't believe they would affect a current cancer but would certainly lead to new cancerous exposure so I would not risk it. There are a lot of great sunless tanners out there now as well as spray tans!
Reply:Those two medical conditions are in two ballparks. Ovarian cysts do not preclude you from tanning. But always wear sun tan lotion with a high SPF...like maybe 40-45...to prevent skin damage. As for Cervical Cancer, are you on cancer chemoptherapy?. THere are many drugs that you cannot be in the sun's rays due to intensive skin sensitivity. Consult your pharmacist and doctor.
Reply:If you want to risk getting skin cancer
Reply:I know you have heard it before, but I'm gonna say it again. You should never, ever, ever, ever, go tanning. nothing is more harmful to your skin that exposing it to those artificial UV lights. Tanning itself, is a surge of melanin that comes to surface of your skin while you are, for lack of a better term, cooking yourself. Tanning is the bodys response to the damage that you are causing.

Please, for your own sake, stay out of those beds, they really are no good for you. If you are in poor health especially.
Reply:If you have ovarian cyst or cervical cancer do you still have the mood to go tanning? Get yourself treated first, that is top priority.
Reply:What do you want skin cancer too? Be happy with the color skin that you have-it is part of being you!
Reply:It seems that you would want to concentrate all your efforts on not dying if you have cancer, so I question whether this is a joke or not. Just in case it's not a joke, here's a little different take on cancer treatment--

In 1990, I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma, stage 3-B, but I've survived. My doctors were great people, but they really couldn't tell me squat about cancer. During the year in treatment, I started learning about alternative medicine.

Here's what I've figured out--FIRST, somebody--probably sympathetic to the AMA--is getting my answers deleted as 'not a question or an answer', because they don't want you to know about this. So if you want to keep this information, you need to copy it to a wordpad document quickly, before it disappears. Hopefully, they'll give up and stop that nonsense soon, but I wouldn't count on it. Now, here goes--

Poor nutrition, a sedentary lifestyle and reduced oxygen weaken the immune system. Once that happens, our body becomes vulnerable to common stressors. Stressors can be environmental, like viruses, heavy metals, pesticides, food additives, electromagnetic waves or pollution. They can be internal things like emotional or job stress, or poisonous people in our lives. And aging is also a contributing factor.

[weak immune system] + [stressors] = MAJOR ILLNESS (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc.)

Our bodies have 60 trillion--yes, trillion--cells, and there are always some mutating into cancer cells, but a healthy immune system kills them before they have a chance to get a foothold in the body.

It takes a LONG time, usually, or an exrtaordinary amount of stressors, to degrade the immune system to the point where it won't do its job, but once cancer has formed, it will generally spread rapidly.

THIS IS IMPORTANT! There are ways to BEAT cancer that the AMA is keeping from the American public, that are currently being used in Europe and around the world! Here are some great books on the subject. Some are getting hard to find--

"The Cure for All Cancers", ISBN 0963632825

"A Cancer Therapy", ISBN 0882681052

"Oxygen Therapies", ISBN 0962052701

"Killing Cancer", ISBN 0705000966

"Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About", ISBN 0975599518

Type 'used books' into your browser and find a good site, then type in the ISBN numbers and get some great help cheap.

I know of people whose cancer has 'spontaneously remitted' (WENT AWAY for no known reason) after they went on programs of herbs and nutrition that restart our immune systems.

The American Medical Association (AMA) and the pharmaceutical companies control medical law and the FDA in this country with heavy lobbying and a revolving door policy. WHY would they want to do this? It's about the money. In 2004, medicine (doctors, hospitals, researchers and pharmaceutical firms) received 1.1 TRILLION dollars--1/4th of the total earnings (GNP 4.4 trillion) in the U.S. This is astounding, because it's like 1/4th of our citizens--about 75 MILLION people--worked the whole year just to pay the nation's medical expenses!!

That's just too big to care about individuals. You and your family must look out for yourselves to stand a chance of being healthy. This is not a joke, and I'm not selling anything--just trying to help. There is MUCH that cancer victims can do about it. Best of luck

Whats the best way to relieve the pain of an ovarian cyst?

Aleve works very well; if that doesn't work, you can try 600 mg (that's 3 regular Advil or Ibuprofen or Motrin tablets) of Ibuprofen every 6 hours. Be sure to eat something when you take them, they can be hard on your stomach. You can combine either of these (Aleve or Ibuprofen) with Tylenol (Acetaminophen) for more pain relief, but be sure not to exceed the amount of any given medication recommended on it's bottle.

Generally:

Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin): 600 mg (3 x 200 mg tabs) every 6 hours (for a cyst)

OR

Naproxen (Aleve): 1 tablet every 12 hours

and you can add

Acetaminophen (Tylenol): 2 x 500 mg every 4 hours, DO NOT TAKE MORE THAN THIS, it is bad for your liver.

Good luck, if the pain is not controlled with this, call your Ob/Gyn and tell them what you have taken and how bad the pain is.

Julie

PS, a heating pad works well on top of the affected side to help with the meds. A hot bath can help in the same way.

PPS, [IMPORTANT]***This is all assuming that you have already SEEN an Ob/Gyn and had the cyst diagnosed and measured; a large (%26gt; 5cm) cyst usually has to be removed because there is a danger of it twisting and causing trouble. If you have NOT seen somebody, and you have pain that you just THINK is a cyst, you need to be seen. There are other things that can cause that kind of pain, that need medical care, and some of them are fairly urgent.***

Reply:I went to the dr. and he gave me a week's worth of prescription pain killers. That helped more than anything along with relaxation and not moving around much.
Reply:See a doctor as soon as you can. I had a ovarian cyst and I waited so long to see a doctor that I was very weak and dizzy. I had to have it taken out.Good luck. I feel great now.
Reply:I had ovarian cysts on both my right and left side. I was taking anti-inflammatories but they just upset my stomach even with eating so I started taking tylenol 3 for the pain and they worked great. I went for my second ultrasound and they shrunk on their own. I recommend talking to your doctor though.

What is the nursing care for a patient with an hydatid cyst?

No special nursing care. It is not transmitted from one human to another. Where is the cyst? It is found most commonly in the liver or lung. Rarely, it is found in the brain, heart or elsewhere. Nursing care depends upon the site and symptoms. It is mostly transmitted from dogs. It is treated with an anthelminic like albendazole. After it shrinks, it may be removed surgically.

Hydatid cyst is a parasite, a kind of tapeworm. Its larvae are transmitted to dogs and wolves by eating sheep carcasses. The larva develops to the adult worm in dog, and eggs are passed in dog faeces. Humans can ingest them, and the larva develops in the human body. It cannot grow to adult in humans.Symptoms depend upon the location in the human body.

The doctor has scheduled out patient surgery for him. He said if it not taken care of, he would develop problems later on. Is anyone out there familiar with this?

My 2 month grandson has been diagnosed with a branchial cleft cyst. He has a very tiny indention on his neck.
My son who is now 5 had the same diagnosis when he was only 2. We were referred to Arkansas Childrens Hospital in Little Rock, they performed a minor out-patient surgery on him, and all is fine. The most traumatic part for him was when he woke up and discovered an I.V. in his leg, and wanted to tear it right out! Any sort of surgery on a child that young is frightening, but hopefully everything will turn out fine for you, too.
