How long after fertilization in pregnancy does a corpus leutum cyst rupture?

The corpus luteum (a latin term, for the previous poster, which is used in medcine here in the USA) forms after ovulation from the follicle the egg ruptures out of. If fertilization doesn't occur, it will descinigrate after about 14 days. In the case of fertilization and pregnancy, however, it continues to function for about 8-10 weeks, providing hormones to maintain the pregnancy until the placenta takes over. Some women experience pain/slight bleeding upon rupture of the corpus luteum (I happened to), but others feel no pain at all. It is called an ovarian cyst only because of the size (over 3 mm, which is the standard definition of a cyst). Hope this helps.
