I have an 8 month old boxer. I noticed a cyst like lump under her chin that keeps bleeding. What could it be?

I was hoping that someone with a dog may have had a similar situation and could offer some advice. The vet that I go to isn't open until Monday and I'm worried that it could be something serious that needs to be dealt with now.

I have an 8 month old boxer. I noticed a cyst like lump under her chin that keeps bleeding. What could it be?
I own and breed boxers. 6 months ago my then 1 yr old white boxer had a cyst on her chest that bled, we brought her to the vet and they removed it and had it tested for cancer (she was fine). It is important to bring your dog to the vet and see if they feel it is neccessary to remove, it is also essential that if they want to remove it you insist that "ACE PROMAZINE" or any of it's deritvies are not used (it is a common anesthetic used on dogs) most vets are not concerned with the fact or unaware of the fact that ACE in a boxer can stop the heart and kill your baby. Good Luck
Reply:It could be acne. If you're using a plastic water bowl, switch to metal or ceramic.

Could be some sort of infection, in which case your vet will recommend an antibiotic.
Reply:I would keep it clean and monitor it for growth. If it stays the same size, even if it keeps bleeding, I would take her in as soon as you can. If it grows, or changes texture, I would get her in to an emergency clinic. It is most likely just a cyst, but without seeing it, you can't really tell. Best o ***** with her...
Reply:I think she;ll be Ok till monday. Perhaps you can put a little Bacitracin or Neosporin on it just to prevent more/any infection.
Reply:It could be an infected hair folicle or a sebacious cyst that is draining. Boxers because of there short hair can get infected hair folicles quite easily. I had an english springer spaniel that had the same problem. We used to keep antibotics around for her when she would get a particularly bad problem with them.

You can try putting some peroxide on it to let it boil out if he will stand for it. Or just wait until Monday and talk to the vet.

He is still a puppy and as such still growing and changing. Puppy acne can be a part of that.
Reply:Oh, gee, it could be all kinds of things. Keep it clean and put an ointment on it like Neosporsin until you can get in to the vet.
Reply:could be canine acne. my dog has it and hers bleed sometimes.
Reply:I would definitely take her into the vet asap.Has she been playing with any other dogs and possibly got bitten and the wound got a little infected? Hopefully it isn't anything serious, but boxers are a breed that has a lot of problems with different types of cancers. That would be the worst case scenario but monitor it closely. Kudos for being alert to your puppys well being.
Reply:Could be a reason to take her to the vet asap. Doctor it with neosporin for now.
Reply:I have a mixed boxer and she gets those if I use a plastic bowl for her to drink from. I switched to a metal bowl and my doctor gave me antibiotics for her and it cleared it up. I had someone tell me one time that its normal for boxers (but I don't know for a fact). My vet said also that when they drink and the water drips off their chins that the chin stays moist and that doesn't help them either. He said there's not much to do about that unless you want to dry their chins after they have a drink all the time. :o) He will be fine - just get him some antibiotics. Also, she is right - use neosporin this weekend. :o)
Reply:I also have a boxer and a few months back (July to be exact) I noticed that she had the same problem your dog is having. The cause ended up being she is allergic to plastic. The vet recommended switching to either ceramic or metal feeding bowls. When I switched to metal, the cyst went away in a few days.
Reply:Don't want ot scare you, but Boxers have a high rate of cancers. Tumors or cysts of ant kind should be taken seriously. If you think you can't afford treatment, you have to consider how much your dogs depends on you for his health care. At least get it checked out and go from there. He's counting on you. Good luck.
Reply:My dog has the same thing!
Reply:if it just starts bleeding on its own then its serious and if it bleeds because ur picking at it or he/she is picking at it then its not u need to put like an special cream on it i can not think of the name right now. so just get some sort of healing cream or healing saliva and put it on the bump and put it around the bump and do it for 5-6 weeks or days and if it is still there then u need to go to the emergency vet
Reply:Boxers are known to be tumor factories, however, most of their tumors are benign and harmless but require removal. Keep the area clean with some peroxide mixed with a little water. If the dog will allow a bandage to cover it, do so. They have tiny hair glands on the underside of their chins, it could be one got infected which is quite common. I would see the vet come Monday.
