Should I be worried that I have a painful ovarian cyst and already taking birth control?

Oh! I had the same problem! I had an ovarian cyst around the end of Christmas vacation. I went to the hospital, thinking it was my appendix. After my CAT scan, the doctor told me it was the size of a grapefruit (I'm a petite, 14 year old girl, so that was pretty terrifying) and that I might have to have surgery. Fortunately, they put me on Kariva, instead, which is a 28 day birth control pill. It drastically reduced the size of my cyst from 13" to 2" (from before and after ultrasounds). So no, don't be worried, the birth control is supposed to help eliminate the cyst. Plus, it keeps me from getting anemia again!


Feel better, by the way, my cyst was really painful.

Reply:You should get that checked out right away! My mom didnt get that taken care of because she didnt get the right help, and it led to unhealthy problems. Dont let this happen to you! Get treated for it right away.
Reply:Yes, you should go be seen as soon as you can. I would start by calling your OBGYN. The contraceptive is suppose to help reduce the cyst but not always. If you are taking the pill AND still having pain, you need a CT scan or ultrasound to see what's up. You do not want that cyst to rupture, you can get gravely ill. Do yourself a favor, call the doc.
Reply:I would take this really seriously and see an OBGYN immediately. I have a very close friend that was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer and she has been going through an horrible time. From getting sick and hospitalized due to kimo, having to shave her whole head because her head is falling and dealing with daily life issues. The scary part is that she would go to the OBGYN once a year like we are supposed to and it was never detected. She ended up being hospitalized due painful cramps which as a result was the cancer.
Reply:it depends on how long you are on birth control. It took about 4 months b4 the pain started to go away.
